  • Young children. Piano is one of the best first instruments, because kids can make a nice sound right away and see the patterns in music laid out on the keys.
  • Kids and teens building skills for recitals, school, or auditions
  • Adult beginners. It’s never too late. We teach plenty of adults, from first-timers to retirees.
  • Returning players who took lessons as kids and want to pick it back up

“We are extremely impressed with the balance he strikes between knowing when to push our son to further develop his skills and when to step back a bit. … [Our son] often dislikes leaving our house, but he never argues when it’s time to leave for his piano lessons.”

    Piano, Keyboard, and Synth

Not every piano student wants to play Beethoven, and that’s great. Along with traditional acoustic piano, we teach keyboard and digital piano, playing in a band, and using synthesizers. Interested in making your own music? Our recording and music production lessons show you how to use a keyboard as a MIDI controller to compose, produce, and record your own songs on a computer.

    A Little Piano History

The piano grew out of earlier keyboard instruments like the pipe organ, clavichord, and harpsichord. Around 1700, Bartolomeo Cristofori in Florence invented a keyboard that struck the strings with hammers instead of plucking them, so players could play both soft (piano) and loud (forte). That’s where the name “pianoforte” comes from. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt helped make it the star of Western music, and today’s 88-key piano is at the center of everything from classical concerts to jazz clubs, rock bands, and recording studios.

    More Ways to Grow

Our piano students can perform in student recitals to build confidence in a friendly setting. Students interested in jazz or rock can join a jazz ensemble or our rock band program on keys. Piano also pairs well with any other instrument we teach, and many of our students take piano alongside voice, guitar, or a band instrument to strengthen their theory and ear training.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How long are lessons?

Choose 30, 45, or 60-minute private lessons. There’s no long-term contract, and your first lesson is free.

What age can my child start piano lessons?

Many children start between ages 5 and 7, once they can focus for a short lesson and know their numbers and letters. Adults are welcome at any age. It’s never too late to start.

Do I need a piano at home?

You’ll need something to practice on. An acoustic piano is great, but a digital piano or keyboard with 88 weighted keys works well for most students. Ask us at your free lesson if you’d like recommendations.

I’m an adult beginner. Will I be the only one?

Not at all. Many of our piano students are adults learning for the first time or coming back after years away. Lessons move at your pace and focus on the music you want to play.

Can I learn pop or jazz instead of classical?

Yes. We teach classical, pop, jazz, blues, worship, and more. Many students learn a mix, and we’ll build your lessons around what keeps you excited to play.

How much should my child practice?

For young beginners, 10 to 15 minutes a day, most days of the week, is a great start. Short, regular practice works better than one long session. Your teacher will set clear goals each week.
