Voice Lessons in Colorado Springs
Everyone has a voice, and with good training almost anyone can learn to sing better. Whether you want to nail a musical theatre audition, sing confidently in choir or on the worship team, front a band, or just sing your favorite songs without straining, singing lessons can help you get there. At Rocky Mountain Academy of Music, we offer private voice lessons for students of all ages and skill levels at our studio on North Academy Blvd. Your first lesson is free, so you can meet your teacher and see how lessons work before you commit.

Who Singing Lessons Are For
- Complete beginners who love to sing but have never had training
- Kids and teens building confidence, or preparing for school choir, musicals, and talent shows
- Musical theatre performers preparing for auditions and shows
- Choir and worship singers who want a stronger, healthier voice
- Singers in bands and singer-songwriters
- Students preparing for college music or theatre auditions
- Adults who’ve always wanted to sing, or want to get back to it
- Shy singers. Lessons are a supportive, private place to build confidence before you sing in front of anyone else.

What You’ll Learn
Lessons are built around your voice, your goals, and the music you love, whether that’s pop, rock, musical theatre, classical, country, R&B, jazz, or worship. Most students work on:
- Breath support. Breathing correctly is the foundation of a strong, steady voice and the key to holding long notes.
- Pitch and ear training, so you can sing in tune with confidence
- Healthy technique. You’ll learn to sing without straining, so you can practice and perform without hurting your voice.
- Expanding your range, and smoothing out the “break” between chest voice and head voice
- Tone and resonance, to find a full, clear sound that’s uniquely yours
- Diction and style, so you understand how classical, musical theatre, and contemporary singing differ
- Performance skills, including stage presence, connecting with an audience, and handling nerves
- Reading music and music theory, so you can learn songs faster and sing confidently in choirs and ensembles
- Audition preparation, including choosing songs, preparing 16- and 32-bar cuts, and auditioning for musicals, choirs, and colleges
Weekly lessons keep you progressing steadily, and a teacher can catch tension and strain early, before they turn into bad habits or vocal fatigue.
“Fantastic staff and crew work here honestly, the moment I got into contact I knew I was working with reliable people. … Whether you are a beginner or veteran music performer The Rocky Mountain Academy of Music will help refine and develop your musical skill.”
How the Voice Works
Your voice is an instrument you carry everywhere. Air from your lungs makes your vocal folds (often called vocal cords) vibrate, and the sound is shaped and amplified by your throat, mouth, and nasal passages. Because you can’t see any of it happening, singing well comes down to coordination and awareness. That’s why a trained teacher who can hear what’s going on and give you the right exercises makes such a difference.
Singing is also one of the oldest forms of music. It runs through every style, from ancient chant and opera to Broadway, pop, and today’s electronically processed vocals. Whether you love Mozart, Adele, or the latest Broadway cast album, the same healthy technique will help you sing it better.
More Ways to Grow
Our voice students can perform in student recitals to build confidence in a friendly setting, and singers who want to perform with a band can join our rock band program or a jazz ensemble. Many singers also take piano or guitar lessons so they can accompany themselves, and our recording and music production lessons can help you record your own songs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone learn to sing?
Yes. Singing is a skill, not just a talent. Most people who think they “can’t sing” simply haven’t learned breath support and pitch matching yet, and both improve with practice and good instruction.
What age can my child start voice lessons?
Many children start private voice lessons around age 7 or 8. Younger kids benefit from singing for fun, and lessons for young voices focus on healthy habits rather than pushing range or power. Adults are welcome at any age.
Will lessons change my natural voice?
No. Good voice lessons help you sound like the best version of yourself. You’ll gain range, control, and stamina while keeping the style and tone that make your voice yours.
I have a musical theatre audition coming up. Can you help?
Yes. We can help you choose the right song for the show and role, prepare your cut, and work on both singing and performance so you walk in confident.
Do I need to know how to read music?
No. Many students start without reading music, and we can teach it along the way. It’s especially helpful for choir and musical theatre.
